Why It’s Time to Qualify Your Team Members in Community Services

The Community Services sector is evolving at a rapid pace. For organisations in aged care and disability support, the challenge is clear: how do you keep your workforce skilled, motivated, and ready for the future?

The answer lies in investing in your people. A qualified workforce doesn’t just deliver better care—it also improves staff retention by providing career pathways into supervisory, team leader, and management roles.

At LEAD Disability Services, we’ve developed a Traineeship Program through our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that helps businesses fast-track their team members into working more independently in individualised support.

How the Program Works

Stage 1 – Training Block

Trainees complete upfront training in core units, including:

  • CHCCCS031 – Provide individualised support

  • CHCCOM005 – Communicate and work in health/community services

  • HLTWHS002 – Follow safe work practices for direct client care

  • HLTINF006 – Apply infection prevention & control practices

Stage 2 – Buddy Shifts
Trainees work alongside experienced staff, completing personal care tasks with clients. Supervisors sign off on these practical skills.

Stage 3 – Independent Work
Once practical elements are signed off, trainees begin working independently with clients while completing the remainder of their traineeship.

  • Employer commitment: release staff for 3 hours of study per fortnight, plus 3 hours of on-the-job training.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Full-time staff: employed within the past 3 months (or new employees)

  • Part-time staff: employed within the past 12 months (or new employees)
